I had meant to post this weeks ago but I got caught up in work. Sorry!
I was too excited when the First Lady came to UNCG’s Fleming Gymnasium as a stop on her campaign trail. I didn’t get the chance to see her back in May when she was the guest speaker at North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University’s commencement ceremony. I really got lucky in getting a ticket for this event held at my alma mater, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
After waiting in line, going through security, Mrs. Obama finally came out! Before I go into detail about Mrs. Obama, I just wanted to say how proud I am of Keylin Rivera who introduced the First Lady. The crowd has plenty of chants for the First Lady. “Four more years” “we want michelle” and “Forward” were amongst the crowd’s favorites.
Mrs. Obama was very excited to come to Greensboro and get the crowd “fired up” (another slogan the First Lady and volunteers used to get the crowd excited). She spoke about her and her husband’s life and upbringing and how hard work can pay off. Michelle Obama emphasized the number of great things President Obama has done for the country such as ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act that ensures equal pay for women, and ending the war in Iraq. Those are just a sample of things he has done! To see an example of a list of things President Barack Obama has done, click here.
Mrs. Obama pleaded with us that this election is more important than ever. She stated that Barack Obama said this election will be closer than last time. This is why it is important for everyone of legal age to register and vote! People have died for everyone a chance to vote and we take it for granted!
Mrs. Obama’s new campaign is “It Takes One” meaning if you are knocking on doors campaigning, calling people on the phone, and volunteering for this election, then bring just one friend along with you. She states it only takes one voice to change a room, a room to change a city, a city to change a state, and a state to change a nation. We need to continue to progress FORWARD!
If you haven’t registered to vote, please do so immediately and go vote in November!!!
